Skoda Kushaq is the production name of the Vision IN
We have seen and heard a lot about Skoda's upcoming crossover that will take on the likes of Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos under the Volkswagen Group's India 2.0 strategy led by Skoda India. We saw the first concrete iteration of this crossover in the form of the Skoda Vision IN concept that was showcased on the even of the 2020 Auto Expo last year. Now, Skoda India has confirmed that the production-spec car will be called the Kushaq and we expect to see it hit the market between April-June 2021.
A lot of thought has gone into the name and its origin. 'Kushaq' is inspired by 'Kushak' (à¤à¥à¤¶à¤), which means king or emperor in the ancient Indian language, Sanskrit. The spelling has modified to fall in line with Skoda's naming nomenclature for its SUVs, which starts with the letter K and ends with the letter Q. Reports and rumours suggest that the name 'Kushaq' was chosen over other names like Kliq, Karmiq, Kosmiq and Konarq.
Skoda sure hopes that the Kushaq will rule the segment that is currently one of the most hotly contested spaces in the Indian car market. To that end, it will ensure that Kusahq will stand out as a premium product with a fit and finish comparable to the Karoq, equipment list that will be on par with the rivals and pricing that will be competitive. Will the package be compelling enough, remains to be seen, but we hope to get a foretaste of what to expect from the Skoda Kushaq in a few days from now, so stay tuned.
