Skoda Kylaq launched in India at Rs 7.89 lakh
Skoda Auto India has finally pulled the covers off its latest offering, the all-new Skoda Kylaq. The Kylaq will be the entry-level car in the brand's portfolio with a starting price of Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). It will compete in the sub-4 metre SUV space against cars like the Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Hyundai Venue.
The Skoda Kylaq measures 3,995mm in length, 1,783mm wide and 1,612mm tall. While this will slot under the Kushaq, the new car is 23mm wider and 7mm taller than its older sibling. The Kylaq also has a wheelbase of 2,566mm.
Skoda hasn't gone out of its cookbook with the Kylaq and it looks pretty much like a slightly scaled-down version of the Kushaq. A split headlight arrangement with thin DRLs positioned above the primary headlights is installed on its front. The noticeable creases on the bonnet give the Skoda grille, which is thinner than the Kushaq's, a stronger appearance up front. Additionally, the bumper's generous cladding gives the front end a two-tone look.
The alloy wheels of the Kylaq are 17 inches but on the lower variants, the size drops to 16 inches. Its SUV posture is highlighted by chrome door handles, body cladding, and roof rails. The rear has a roof-mounted spoiler, shark fin antenna, and wraparound LED tail lamps. Along with a rear wiper with a washer and a defogger, the SKODA branding on the tailgate is completed in chrome.
Skoda Kylaq: Interior & Features
Dual digital displays, automatic driver seat, leatherette upholstery, linked car technology, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, and a 6-speaker Canton sound system are some of the interior's highlights. The driver's display measures 8 inches while the main infotainment which does operate on a new OS measures 10 inches. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are carried over from the Kushaq.
In terms of storage, the Kylaq appears to have pretty big bottle holders and cupholders along with a cooled glovebox. Speaking of storage, the Kylaq has the biggest boot in its segment at 446-litre which also happens to be much bigger than the Kushaq. 6Â airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control, ISOFIX child seat mounting points, headrests, and three-point seatbelts for every passenger are standard on all Kylaq models.
Skoda Kylaq: PowertrainA 1-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces up to 115PS and 178Nm powers the Kylaq. A 6-speed torque-converter transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission can be mated to the engine. Skoda claims a 0 to 100kph sprint of just 10.5 seconds and a fuel economy of 20kmpl.
Skoda Kylaq: Prices
Skoda has said that bookings for the new Kylaq will begin from December 2 onwards with deliveries set to only from January 2025. Skoda is still to announce the variants list as well as the proper detailed pricing. For now, all we know is the base price is Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the top variants of the Kylaq to sit comfortably somewhere between Rs 13 to 15 lakh.
