Skoda unveils new Octavia vRS in the UK
Skoda has released the first pictures and full details of its new high-performance Octavia vRS âÂ" the fastest production Octavia in history. It will be available in two guises âÂ" saloon and estate.
The Octavia is obtainable in 217PS 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol and 182PS 2.0-litre TDI variants, either mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed dual-clutch transmission with an optional paddle shift. Firmer sports suspension means the saloon is 12mm lower than the standard Octavia and the estate is 13mm lower. The car's steering rack has been tuned to require a smaller steering angle on challenging routes. The XDS electronic differential and multi-link rear suspension are added features.
The petrol model clocks 0-100kmph in 6.8 seconds and the diesel will hit 100kmph from nought in 8.2 seconds. Skoda claims both engines are up to 19 per cent more fuel efficient than their second-generation cousins.
Aesthetic modifications come in the form of a new bodykit, bold vRS badges, honeycomb air intakes in front with a new grille, bi-xenon headlamps with LED running lights, black rear diffuser, chrome plated exhaust tips, a rear spoiler and red painted brake callipers. Customers can choose from new 17, 18 and 19-inch alloy designs.
Interiors on the vRS include sporty front seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, leather wraps on the handbrake and gearknob, and stainless-steel pedals and sill kickplates. There is also a totally new generation of infotainment radio and navigation systems.
Prices will be announced by the company at the car's global launch at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on July 10, 2013, before going up for sale in August. The new Skoda Octavia vRS will make it to UK first and is expected to be priced the equivalent of around Rs 18 lakhs.
