Spec comparison: 2018 Suzuki GSX-S750 vs Kawasaki Z900 vs Triumph Street Triple S
The 2018 Suzuki GSX-S750 is set to be launched in India soon. The GSX-S750 will be brought to India via the CKD route and locally assembled here. This could spell bad news for its direct competition here in the middleweight naked category, for, local assembly means it may be priced really well. With an expected price of under Rs 8 lakh, the Suzuki GSX-S750 will compete with the Kawasaki Z900, the Triumph Street Triple S and the Ducati Monster 821. Since the Monster 821 is yet to make its India debut, Let's stack the GSX-S750 up against the Z900 and Triple S.
The 2018 Suzuki GSX-S750 as displayed at the 2018 Auto Expo is one great looking naked motorcycle. It has the aggressive lines of its larger sibling, the GSX-S1000, albeit in a more compact package. The Street Triple S, meanwhile, takes forward its signature twin round headlamp and fly screen format. This is too similar to its predecessor to have a big impact. The Kawasaki Z900 meanwhile trades in the hard edges of the Z800 for a more curvy character. However, this does nothing to take away any of the meanness and aggression of the design, and we like it!
Engine
The GSX-S750 comes powered a 749cc liquid-cooled inline four cylinder engine which produces 114PS/81Nm. The Z900 also has a similar engine layout, but has the most displacement of the lot at 948cc. It also has the highest output at 125PS/98.6Nm. The Triple S is the only one with a liquid-cooled inline three motor, displacing 765cc and outputting 113PS but also has the least torque at 73Nm.
Dimensions
The S750 is the longest motorcycle here at 2,125mm, with a wheelbase of 1,455mm. The Z900 and the Triple S both come in at an identical measurement of 2,025mm. This means that the Suzuki sacrifices some its agility in favour of more stability, while the other two have a shorter wheelbase measuring 1,410mm (Triple S) and 1,450mm (Z900), respectively. The GSX-S750 weighs almost as much as the Z900 at 211kg, while the Street Triple S tips the scales at 188kg. That would suggest the Triple S would be the easiest to flick around, while S750 would have better high-speed stability with its added weight and longer wheelbase.
Price
The Kawasaki Z900 despite being the most powerful of the trio, is priced at Rs 7.68 lakh despite coming in via the CBU import route. The Triumph Street Triple S is priced at Rs 8.62 lakh despite being a CKD assembled in India. The Suzuki which will also be locally assembled is estimated to be priced under the Rs 8 lakh mark. Going by the specifications, the Z900 looks like it could walk all over the competition. But does that make it the king of the middleweights? Well, we will find that out as we compare this trio once the GSX-S750 is launched.
