Spec comparison: Mercedes-Benz EQA vs BMW iX1 vs Volvo XC40 Recharge
Mercedes Benz introduced the all-electric EQA in India today at Rs 66 lakh (ex-showroom). This is the most affordable entry-level electric vehicle (EV) from the brand. It comes in a single trim level, the EQA 250+ with a few AMG Line elements.

It has a luggage compartment capacity of 340 litres. In contrast, the XC40 Recharge (now EX40 globally) is 4,440mm long, 1,863mm wide, 1,647mm tall with a wheelbase of 2,702mm. While its cargo capacity is 410 litres, there is also a small 31-litre frunk. Then, the iX1 measures 4,500mm in length, 1,845mm in width, and 1,616mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,692mm and can accommodate up to 490 litres of storage.

The crux of the new EQA 250+ lies in its electric powertrain. The EV gets a 70.5kWh battery pack paired with a single motor that delivers 190PS and 385Nm of torque. It has a range of 560km, as per WLTP. In terms of performance, the EQA can go to 100kmph from stationary in 8.6 seconds and provides a top speed of 160kmph. The SUV supports up to 100kW DC fast charging, and is claimed to charge the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in about 32 minutes. Not to mention, it also supports up to 22kW AC fast charging.
BMW has given the iX1 a 66.4kWh battery pack and a dual-motor setup. With this, it offers a WLTP range between 417-440km, while the motors generate 313PS and 494Nm of torque. As claimed, the electric SUV can reach 100kmph from zero in 5.6 seconds and tops out at 180kmph. Customers can charge the iX1 with a charging capacity of up to 130kW, which takes 29 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 per cent. Additionally, 10 minutes of top up claims to provide 120km of range.
The XC40 Recharge (now EX40 globally) features a 78kWh battery unit coupled to a dual-motor setup that makes 408PS and 660Nm of torque. It has a WLTP range of 505km, while the ICAT tested XC40 Recharge claims to deliver 592km. The XC40 Recharge can go from zero to 100kmph in 4.8 seconds and provides a top speed of 180kmph. This EV supports up to 150kW DC charging, providing 10 to 80 per cent charge in 28 minutes. It is to be noted that, there is also a single-motor version of the XC40 Recharge with a 69kWh battery pack.

The EQA gains a range of features from its elder sibling, such as coloured heads-up display, augmented reality navigation, 360deg camera, a 12-speaker Burmester sound system, a 10.25-inch driver display, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with the latest MBUX iteration, new AMG steering wheel, dual-zone climate controls, a wireless charging pad, intelligent recuperation function, active parking assist, adaptive high-beam assist, active steering assist, multicolour ambient lighting, adaptive cruise control, speed limit assist, emergency brake assist, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and anti-theft system, among others.
BMW has bestowed the iX1 xDrive30 with 18-inch M light alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, Digital Key Plus, park assist with reversing assistant, driving assistant with basic ADAS functions, a 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a 10.25-inch driver display, a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging pad, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone temperature control, a panoramic sunroof, adaptive suspension, connected car features, powered front seats with memory settings, massage function, and lumbar support; cruise control, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging, and USB Type-C charging sockets.
On the flip side, the XC40 Recharge offers Pixel LED headlamps, fog lights, nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12-inch driver display, Pilot Assist, a range of ADAS features, a 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, dual-zone temperature control, a panoramic sunroof, 360deg camera, wireless charging pad, air purifier, telematics, connected car features, TPMS, powered front seats, HSA, and HDC.
