Spec Comparo: 2020 Maruti Suzuki Dzire vs Hyundai Aura vs Honda Amaze
Maruti Suzuki has updated the Dzire, one of their bestselling cars in the past couple of years. While it gets the BSVI petrol engines and no diesel options, the 2020 Dzire also gets a new face. On the price front, the new Dzire is just Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000 expensive compared to the previous car across variants and it continues to compete against its two challengers âÂ" the Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Aura. Of course you have the Ford Aspire or the Tata Tigor in this segment, but their numbers do not really keep them in the competition.
Dimensions and styling
The sub-4m compact sedan is fought to the last millimeter owing to the length constraints and all the three sedan, the Dzire, the Aura and the Amaze measure the same, 3995mm in length. But, the Dzire (1735mm) is the widest of the lot while the Aura (1520mm) is the tallest. The Amaze has the longest wheelbase at 2470mm as well as the largest boot of 420-litres.
We are comparing the top-spec petrol manual variants of all three cars and while the Dzire and Aura get daytime running lamps, the Amaze does not get DRLs. The Dzire leads with all-LED headlamps as well as automatic headlamps while Aura gets chrome door handles. All three get 15-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured bumpers and front fog lamps.
Interior and equipment
Safety first, the three cars get dual airbags in the front along with ABS and EBD along with central locking and engine immobilzer. They also get rear parking sensors with camera but the Honda Amaze gets camera with guidance as well.
The features list on these compact sedans are competing closely with all three cars getting automatic climate control but the Amaze misses out on the rear AC vents. They also get push-button start and all-four power windows and while one-touch down driver window is offered across all three cars, the Dzire gets one-touch up function on the driver window and the Amaze has one-touch up feature on all four windows.
In terms of interior, dual-tone scheme is standard with fabric upholstery, height adjustable driver seat and tilt-adjustable steering wheel is standard on all three cars. Rear armrest with cup holders is also given in all three but the Amaze loses out on the folding rear seats.
All three sedans get touchscreen infotainment systems and the Hyundai Aura's 8-inch display is the bigger than the 7-inch screens of the Amaze and the Dzire. Android Auto and Apple Car play are of course standard along with Bluetooth and USB inputs.
Engine and performance
The new Dzire now comes with only the BSVI rated petrol engine. It is an updated version of the tried and tested 1.2-litre K-series VVT engine and now develops 90PS power, 7 more than the BSIV and 113Nm of torque. It comes mated to a five-speed manual as well as the 5-speed automated manual gearbox options and now delivers 2kmpl more than earlier.
The Aura gets both petrol and diesel engine options along with the new 1.0-litre turbo petrol. While the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine develops 85PS power and 113Nm of torque, the 1.0-litre turbo petrol develops 100PS and 172Nm of torque. Both the engines come mated to a five-speed manual while the 1.2-litre gets an AMT options. The diesel is also a 1.2-litre engine and develops 75PS of power and 190Nm of torque and comes mated with, both manual and AMT, 5-speed gearboxes.
The Amaze gets the 1.2-litre i-Vtec engine that also develops 90PS of power and 110Nm of torque and is paired to a five-speed manual and a CVT gearbox. The diesel engine is the Earth Dreams 1.5-litre four-cylinder oil burner that develops 100PS of power and 200Nm of torque with its 5-speed manual. But if you go for an automatic, the power and torque has been detuned to 80PS and 160Nm for the CVT gearbox.
