Spec Comparo: BMW XM Vs Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT VS Aston Martin DBX 707 Vs Lamborghini Urus Performante
BMW joined the super SUV category and in that process has brought the BMW XM to India. The super SUV segment is taking off well in the country and the XM joins the likes of the Aston Martin DBX 707 and the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT. Let's take a look at what each of these machines brings to the table of the fastest SUVs in the world.
ÂThe powertrain of the BMW XM comprises a twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol mill, a 29.5kWh battery pack, and an electric motor. The engine makes 489PS and 650Nm of torque, while the motor produces 197PS and 280Nm. Notably, the combined is rated at 653PS and 800Nm of torque. With an eight-speed M Steptronic transmission and xDrive all-wheel drive, the XM can achieve 0-100kmph in just 4.3 seconds. Being a plug-in hybrid, the SUV promises a WLTP-tested EV-only range of up to 88km with a top speed of 140kmph.
The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine that powers the Cayenne Turbo GT generates 640PS and 850 Nm. The power is sent to the tarmac via an 8-speed automatic gearbox. According to Porsche, it would accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 3.3 seconds and have a top speed of 300 kmph.
The 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine in the Aston Martin DBX707 generates 707 PS and 900 Nm. It is connected to a 9-speed automatic transmission that drives all four wheels. According to claims, the vehicle has a 0-100 kmph time of 3.5 seconds and a peak speed of 311 kmph.
The Urus Performante now makes 16PS more from its 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, upping outputs to 666PS and 850 Nm. The 0 to 100 kmph time is 3.3s and top speed is 306 kmph while the power to weight ratio has improved with a 47 kg weight saving.
BMW XM Vs Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT VS Aston Martin DBX 707: ElectronicsWith an electronically controlled rear differential, BMW's rear-biased xDrive all-wheel-drive system delivers fully variable torque distribution from the engine and electric motor to all four wheels, ensuring maximum power delivery with a minimum amount of understeer and loss of grip. A 4WD Sand mode may be used on slippery surfaces, and a 4WD Sport mode gives even more power to the back wheels for "M-typical" handling.
To improve the Cayenne Turbo GT's handling and performance, Porsche has modified its electronically controlled chassis system, made its three-chamber suspension setup 15% stiffer, recalibrated dampers, tuned up the steering wheel, modified the rear anti-roll bar, significantly lowered the suspension, and modified the rear-axle steering system. Around the Nürburgring, the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT set a record-breaking time of 7:38:9 minutes.
In order to enhance the 707's overall characteristics, Aston Martin additionally modified the air suspension, steering system, stronger limited-slip differential, and new carbon-ceramic braking discs.
There is a new differential to improve torque distribution, while the steering rack, as well as the rear-wheel steer, have been reworked for better feedback and responses. The Pirelli P Zero tyres have now been specifically developed for the Urus Performante. There is a new Rally drive mode for dirt track with a more forgiving ESC program while the Strada, Sport and Corsa modes have also been reworked.
