Spec comparo: MG Hector vs Tata Harrier vs Jeep Compass vs Mahindra XUV500
Morris Garages has stepped in the Indian market and their first offering will be an SUV - MG Hector. We believe the car will be priced close to Rs 20 lakh mark where it will compete with the Tata Harrier, Jeep Compass and the Mahindra XUV500. The newest addition to the lot is the MG Hector which is offered in both petrol as well as diesel variant, however, for our comparison we shall consider only the diesel engine.
Engine and drive train
All the SUVs in the comparo have a 2.0-litre diesel engine, although in a different state of tune from each other. The Tata Harrier makes the least power here whereas the Jeep inches forward by 3PS more. The Tata Harrier and the MG Hector miss out on an all-wheel-drive system while the Jeep Compass and the Mahindra XUV500 get an optional all-wheel-drive system.
Dimensions
The longest in the comparo is the MG Hector at 4655mm, however, the SUV misses out on three-row seating. The Mahindra XUV500 is the second longest at 4585mm and is the only one to offer three row-seating and a seating capacity of seven people. Shorter than the XUV500 is the Tata Harrier at 4598 and the Jeep Compass at 4395mm being the shortest in the lot.
Pricing
The most economical offering in the lot is the Tata Harrier which starts at Rs 12.7 and goes up to Rs 16.25. Above the Harrier, the Mahindra XUV500 is priced from Rs 12.21 to Rs 19.65 and the Jeep Compass range from Rs 15.60 to Rs 23.11. We believe the MG HEctor will be priced between Rs 16 lakh to Rs 21 lakh mark
