Spec Comparo: TVS iQube vs Bajaj Chetak
The electric scooter market is getting attention from most manufacturers in India. Bajaj launched the Chetak earlier this month, Ather 450 X will be launched anytime soon, and TVS has also hopped on the bandwagon with the iQube. Recently the TVS iQube electric scooter was launched in India which goes toe-to-toe with the Bajaj Chetak. And while we await the prices of the Ather 450 X, here's our spec comparo of the Bajaj Chetak and the TVS iQube.
Drivetrain
The Chetak gets a 4 kW electric motor whereas the iQube gets a 4.4 kWh. The power for Chetak is rated at 5.1PS and 16Nm of torque. However, TVS has not yet disclosed the power figure of the iQube claims peak torque output of 140Nm and has a top speed of 78kmph.
The iQube can accelerate from a standstill to 40kmph in 4.2 seconds. Bajaj has not disclosed the acceleration figures of the Chetak.
The Bajaj Chetak has a claimed range of 95kms while the TV iQube can only do 75kms in one full charge.
Cycle parts
Both the scooters get a disc brake set up in the front and a drum brake set up in the rear. The iQube uses telescopic froks for suspension while the Chetak gets the trailing link. Both the scooters get all-LED headlamps. One noticeable feature of the Chetak is that the company has done away with toggle switches and have used feather touch switches instead.
TVS and Bajaj both offer a three-year-warranty on their respective battery packs.
Features
Both scooters get connected features that sync to the user's smartphone. Features such as geo-tagging and geo-fencing are on offer on both the scooters. The connected features also offer telemetry, ride stats, and battery status.
Pricing
The Chetak is offered in two variants - Urbane and Premium. The Urban retails at Rs 1 lakh ex-showroom and the Premium has a price tag of Rs 1.15 lakh ex-showroom. Currently, Bajaj sells the Chetak in Bengaluru and Pune.
The TVS iQube on the flip side is offered at Rs 1.15 lakh on-road cost but is currently sold only in Bengaluru. Both the scooters are expected to be offered in metro-cities by the year-end.
