Spied: 2017 Jeep Compass caught testing in India
In September this year, Jeep had officially unveiled the Compass SUV. At that time, we had revealed that the 2017 Jeep Compass will be manufactured at FCA's factory in Ranjangaon near Pune. We had also stated that the Jeep Compass would be launched in India in August 2017. Well, the Jeep Compass has now been caught testing in India. The test mule appears to be a pre-production model which was fully camouflaged.
In Brazil, the Jeep Compass range starts at around Rs 19 lakh. In India, the Jeep Compass range is expected to be priced around Rs 25 lakh mark. The price could increase by a couple of lakhs for the top trims. Once launched, the Jeep Compass will compete against the likes of the Hyundai Tucson and the Honda CR-V.
Based on the company's 'Small Wide 4X4' architecture, the Jeep Compass gets a muscular stance and looks sharp. On the inside, it gets an upmarket cabin which has sufficient space to accommodate five occupants.
Initially, Jeep is likely to offer the 2017 Compass in India with the 2.0-litre Multijet diesel engine only. In global markets, this engine is offered with the choice of a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic transmission. Jeep could also offer the Compass in both two-wheel as well as four-wheel configurations.
India will get three variants of the 2017 Jeep Compassa - Sport, Longitude and Limited. The base Sport and the mid-spec Longitude trims will have a ground clearance of 220mm, an approach angle of 30 degrees and a departure angle of 34 degrees. The top-end Limited will have a lower ground clearance and approach angle owing to the sportier front lip.
