Spied: Maruti Suzuki S-Cross testing in India
Out of the two cars Maruti showcased at the Auto Expo 2014, one was the Ciaz while the S-Cross is set to be in showrooms by early 2015. We spotted Maruti testing the latter on the outskirts of Gurgaon. Another website captured the interior images of the new S-Cross crossover.
Crossovers are fast becoming the hot trend in the Indian market - evident from the success of the EcoSport and the Duster. The S-Cross under the camouflage looks like a Suzuki Celerio but in a bigger body. The wheel caps look trendy while the outside rear view mirror is mounted on the front door. The rear looks a tad bland as compared to the somewhat conservative front. Â Maruti has used bits from other cars in its stable for the interiors of the S-Cross. These include the steering wheel, power window switches as well as AC vents. What's new is the chrome surrounding the AC vents and the controls on the dashboard. The mule photographed though didn't have a push button start, steering mounted controls or even climate control. It is likely that the top variant may have all these features.
While internationally the S-Cross is available with 1.6l petrol and diesel engines which make 120PS/156Nm and 120PS/320Nm, it is unlikely that these engines will be available in the Indian market. We may get the 90PS 1.3l diesel engine and 1.4l 93PS petrol motor. The S-Cross will be positioned over the Ciaz.
