Suzuki e Vitara makes global debut; India launch in January 2025

Suzuki has unveiled its first EV in Europe which will be mass-produced and will make its way to India very soon. The Vitara name is quite popular and the Japanese brand has stuck to the basics and will call this new electric SUV the e Vitara. The e Vitara is the production version of the eVX that was showcased a few years ago and will be produced at Suzuki's Gujarat facility, with half of the production intended for export to Japan and Europe.

The e Vitara will be launched in India first though at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025 with deliveries set to begin in March 2025.

The 'Heartect-e' skateboard platform serves as the base for the e Vitara. The dimensions of the electric SUV are 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, 1,635 mm in height, and 2,700 mm in wheelbase. It has 180 mm of ground clearance.

The production-ready car looks very similar to the concept that was first shown. The Suzuki emblem is positioned higher and the headlights get slightly revised with the updated front-end treatment. The e Vitara sports black plastic wrapping all around and is equipped with either 18-inch or 19-inch alloy wheels. The charging port is on the front fender, while the rear door handles are on the C-pillars. Kerb weight is 1,702 kg to 1,899 kg depending on the variant and the battery size.

Speaking of the battery, there will be two battery options: 49kWh and 61kWh. The larger one will have AllGrip-e, which will include dual-motor AWD. The e Vitara's batteries will be provided by BYD of China. Suzuki would import whole battery packs, in contrast to the majority of Indian manufacturers who build battery packs locally.

The 49kWh model features a front-mounted motor with 144PS and 189Nm of torque, while the 61 kWh variant produces 174PS with the same torque. The AWD version, branded as AllGrip-e, adds a 65PS motor on the rear axle, generating a total output of 184PS and 300Nm of torque.

The AllGrip-e has a Trail mode which is a a Limited Slip Differential (LSD) where the brakes are applied to the wheel that has no traction and transferring that torque to the one that does. The brand still has to make an official statement on the range of the e Vitara, but we expect the larger battery pack to have something around 500 kilometres.
