Suzuki Jimny 5-door spied sans camouflage in Google Street View
Maruti Suzuki India has been considering the Jimny for the Indian market in the 5-door guise. The test mule of a 5-door Jimny has been spied in Google Street View without camouflage in its signature lime green colour. Maruti Suzuki India already exports the 3-door Jimny to international markets and the 5-door Jimny may hit the shores in H2 of 2022.
Maruti Suzuki has been readying the Jimny for the Indian market with added practicality. Although the Mahindra Thar has been well perceived by buyers in the Indian market, Maruti has chosen a safer path by offering the 5-door model in the first place. As a matter of fact, Mahindra is also working on a 5-door Thar for buyers seeking practicality. In the images, the 5-door Jimny has elongated front doors due to the distorted image.
The 5-door Jimny will sit on an extended wheelbase and offer enough space for a family of four without compromising on its offroad prowess. As per some rumours, the 5-door Jimny will offer a wheelbase of 2,550 mm and a length of 3,850 mm, benefitting from the sub-compact SUV tax benefits.
Talking about the powertrain, it will continue to come with the 1.5-litre K15 petrol engine that is seen on the 3-door model. It will produce 105PS and 138 Nm of torque while being mated to a 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox. That will be the sole engine option with the Jimny and it may also offer 4WD. Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door won't have any chief rival at launch until Mahindra launches the 5-door Thar.
