Suzuki Vitara features a new hybrid powertrain in Europe
Suzuki has released a hybrid option in Europe with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, which is an improved version of the K15B engine seen in Indian cars such as the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Maruti Suzuki XL6. This new hybrid system is also expected to feature on the all-new Maruti Suzuki mid-size SUV that will take on the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
This hybrid option has been introduced on the Suzuki Vitara in Europe. A 1.5L K15C naturally aspirated petrol engine, a 140V lithium-ion battery pack, and an electric motor makes up the system. For lighting, temperature control systems, and other components, the SUV features a 12V lithium-ion battery and a 12V lead-acid battery.
Suzuki's revised 1.5-litre petrol engine, called the K15C, produces 115PS (10 PS more than the K15B) and 138 Nm of torque. It works in combination with a 33PS and 60Nm electric motor and uses a 6-speed AMT to drive either the front or all four wheels. You may drive the Vitara Hybrid in pure EV mode for low-speed applications, just like a regular hybrid car.
The vehicle has a front-wheel-drive system with a stated mileage of 22.5 kmpl. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 12.7 seconds.
Suzuki's new powerful hybrid powertrain is expected to debut in India on Maruti Suzuki's planned mid-size SUV in the second half of 2022. The vehicle, codenamed Maruti YFG, will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun. The next Maruti SUV will be built on the modular DNGA (Daihatsu New Global Architecture) chassis from Daihatsu.
