Swiggy joins hands with Sun Mobility partnership to power its 15,000 electric bikes
In order to contribute to transform the last-mile delivery operations and encourage sustainable transportation in India, Sun Mobility, the energy infrastructure and electric vehicles (EVs) services provider has partnered with Swiggy, an online food ordering and delivery platform, to power Swiggy's 15,000 e-bikes in next 12 months.
As a part of this partnership, the electric bike fleet of Swiggy will get access to Sun Mobility's battery-swapping stations. As claimed, it will be able to reduce Co2 emissions by about 20,000 tonnes per year. Swiggy delivers thousands of orders every month with its delivery executives travelling about 80-100km every day. With quick access to SUN Mobility's battery-swapping stations close to the hubs of delivery activity, such as restaurants, Swiggy intends to encourage its executives to transition to electric vehicles. Switching to EVs can save up to 40 per cent of the vehicle's running cost and will also impact their earnings, says Swiggy. Notably, this move is said to be in line with Swiggy's commitment to cover eight lakh kilometres per day with electric vehicles by 2025.
Commenting on the occasion, Mihir Shah, Head of Operations, Swiggy, said, "As part of our early and long-term commitment to greener transportation, Swiggy is always looking for ways to increase the adoption of electric vehicles in our delivery fleet. Working with Sun Mobility allows us to solve concerns about access to battery-swapping stations. Our delivery partners can keep going without putting in extra miles or delays due to battery-swapping; all while giving them savings on fuel and vehicle maintenance and contributing to a greener environment."
Swiggy is accelerating transition to EVs and its evident with its recent partnerships with various EV series providers, including Sun Mobility. It has already tied up with battery-swapping company Gogoro to leverage its battery-swapping technology for last-mile deliveries. Not only that, Swiggy has also joined hands with Reliance BP Mobility, an entity of Reliance Industries, to promote EVs.
"We are happy to partner with Swiggy, a pioneer in the food and on-demand delivery industry, to drive the adoption of electric mobility in India. Sun Mobility is committed to promoting sustainable last-mile deliveries through electrification of the delivery fleet. Through our partnership with Swiggy, we will work towards our shared vision of reducing our carbon footprint, promoting sustainable mobility, and contributing to a greener environment," said Anant Badjatya, CEO, Sun Mobility.
