The Ford Capri has been revived as an SUV for Europe
For the first time since the third-generation coupe's manufacture ceased in 1986, Ford has brought the Capri name back to life in Europe. Unlike the coupe that was sold in the 80s with a V6, the new Capri is a coupe SUV that will only be sold as an EV. Also note, the Capri is based on Volkswagen's MEB platform which also underpins the VW ID5 and Skoda Enyaq.
In essence, the Ford Capri is an Explorer coupe with styling cues from Ford. The new Capri is 4,634mm long, 1,872mm wide, and 1,626mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,767mm. Â There are obvious design cues from the emblem, such as the four headlights that are distinctively joined by a black horizontal grille. Ford also added a four-piece taillamp and a rear graphic that extended over the back.
Ford Capri: Battery and Range
There are two versions of Ford's new EV available: Capri and Capri Premium. With a 77 kWh battery, the RWD Capri EV can travel up to 627 km according to WLTP and produces 286PS and 545Nm of torque. The Capri Premium, on the other hand, has a range of up to 592 kilometres and a slightly larger 79 kWh battery and AWD drivetrain. The AWD variant can go from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.3 seconds with up to 340PS.
The 79kWh battery of the Capri can be charged at up to 185kW by owners, enabling a 10-80 percent top-up in 26 minutes. Even with its reduced maximum charging power of 135kW, the 77kWh battery still only takes 28 minutes to finish the same amount of charging.
Ford Capri: Interior and Features
Volkswagen has also influenced the inside, most notably with its 5-inch digital instrument cluster, but Ford has mostly carried over the Explorer's cabin design to the Capri. A 14.6-inch centre touchscreen is standard that can be moved forwards and backwards to change the viewing angle and uncover a wireless phone charger concealed behind it. Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are compatible with this display.
Dual-zone climate controls, heated front seats and steering wheel, powered driver seat with massage function, panoramic sunroof and a 12-speaker Band & Olufsen sound system that includes a full soundbar up front. It also includes a 360-degree camera and a whole suite of ADAS tech onboard.
