The Rolls-Royce Sweptail is as exclusive as it gets

When we talk about Rolls-Royce automobiles, they are indeed special. They boast of the finest level of craftsmanship to suit the needs and demands of the connoisseurs. The very fact that you don't seen many of them is because these Rolls-Royce specimens are hand-built, making them exclusive to a select few. And now Rolls-Royce has reached a new high by commissioning an exclusive one-off offering called the Sweptail. There will be only one Rolls-Royce Sweptail and it has been designed exclusively for an unnamed customer.

Rolls-Royce did preview the things to come in the new future with the 103EX concept, and the Sweptail takes certain cues from the concept. Built over a period of four years, the 2-seater Rolls-Royce Sweptail was unveiled at the Concorso d'Eleganza car show in Italy. This custom-made automobile is called Sweptail as it is inspired by the RR cars in the '30s that feature a similar swept-tail. From the images it is evident that the Rolls-Royce Sweptail shares a lot with the cars from the company seen in yesteryears along with uber rich yachts. It gets the largest grille that has been ever given on a production car. While the side profile looks interesting with the extended tail section, it is the rear that gets all the attention. It gets a yacht-styled swept-tail with a special brake light. The highlight of the design is the large panoramic sunroof that is the largest on any production car.

The cabin has been kept clean and simple with the minimum use of buttons and controls. The bits that draw inspiration from vintage models are the clocks and dials mounted on the dash. The dials on the clock and the instrument cluster have a machined titanium finish. Rolls-Royce has chosen names like Macassar ebony and paldao wood, with moccasin and dark spice. Since it is only a two-seater car, the rear features a generously finished wooden section with illuminated glass. To further spoil the occupants, there is also a provision on the central console to hold champagne bottles. To make it even more interesting, there are two panniers that have been placed in the boot section of the car to take care of the bespoke laptop cases. The Rolls-Royce Sweptail is based on the aluminium spaceframe architecture that powers the Phantom VII Coupe. It is powered by a 6.75-litre V12 engine.

"Sweptail is a truly magnificent car. It exudes the romance of travel for its own sake, and immediately places Sweptail in the pantheon of the world's great intercontinental tourers. Rolls-Royce's history as the world's leading coachbuilder is at the very core of its identity as the world's leading luxury brand," said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.
