There's a Volkswagen Taigun and Virtus based pickup truck concept
In keeping with the government's "Skill India" program, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited (SAVWIPL) continues to show its commitment to skill development through the Student Car Project. This year, the VW Taigun SUV and VW Virtus sedan were combined to create a unique pickup truck by the Mechatronics students.
The truck's design combines the front end of Taigun and the rear half of the Virtus. The project took nine months to complete and involved several stages, including idea gathering, market research and analysis, research and development, sourcing, packing, and final vehicle testing. A few components were 3D printed for the project.
The pickup truck features roof-mounted lights which gives it an off-road appeal. From the side, it's clearly visible that the suspension has been tweaked and has been raised by quite a substantial amount. To complete the tough pickup truck style, they fitted the car with special extras including underbody protection, studded tyres and ambient lighting.
The brand also claims that throughout the project, the students were mentored by skilled professionals at SAVWIPL. This project is one among other initiatives that the company is driving in line with the Government's focus on skilling of youth as envisaged in the recent announcements in the Union Budget 2024.
Launched in 2011, the Dual Vocational Training in Mechatronics program at SAVWIPL Academy is a hallmark initiative. This full-time, 3.5-year program aims to develop and train young people for the automotive industry. It is modelled after Germany's vocational system. To build novel technologies, the program fosters a problem-solving approach, technological ingenuity, and confidence. Students are allowed to investigate, and the project provides insightful information about VW Group standards, future trends, and the automotive industry.
