Three Mahindra EV concepts teased under Born Electric Vision sub-brand ahead of July unveil

Mahindra has teased three SUV concepts under its Born Electric sub-brand, a seemingly fresh start for the Indian automaker in the sustainable mobility space. These concepts are the first fruits of the new Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) design studio in the UK, headed by Pratap Bose. As a reminder, Mahindra had previously announced that it plans to launch 16 EVs in India by 2028, and as we now know, these vehicles will fall under the Born Electric Vision sub-brand, a clever acronym for battery electric vehicles.

Specifically, the company has said that four vehicles from the current range (the XUV300 and XUV700 as we know, along with the Bolero, and Scorpio being likely candidates) will also be available with a fully electric drivetrain, with four new electric SUVs to be added to the line-up. As for the three SUVs teased by the company's social media channels, alognwith directing users to the new Born Electric handles, the designs tie back to Mahindra's light signature via the DRLs, with one vehicle appearing to be a fresh take on the XUV700, while the other two appear to be a smaller compact SUV as in the eXUV300 which has been spotted testing already, and an SUV-coupe â€" all boasting even more edgy design and elaborate lighting elements than the current line-up, along with more highly accentuated wheel arches and bolder surfacing. As always, the styling of Mahindra's concepts are but a suggestion of the direction the company will take with its future cars.

Mahindra has committed Rs 6,000cr for its conventional auto products, and Rs 3,000cr towards its electric vehicle range for a three year period from 2022-2024, with that outlay expected to go up in the following years, skewing more towards EV development later. The company is also open to external funding from private equity firms towards its electric vehicle development.
