Top 10 most affordable cars with ADAS
Safety has been at the forefront in the automobiles, and various innovative technologies, be it passive or active, have witnessed significant development over the years. ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) is such a cutting-edge technology, employing various sensors and cameras, aiming to reduce casualties, maintain control of the vehicle, and alert drivers of various hazards and potential accidents. Hence, most carmakers around the world have been integrating ADAS into their vehicles, especially mass-market cars, making this active safety feature more accessible to a wider range of consumers.
The recently launched 2023 Kia Seltos facelift is one of the new cars in India to come with ADAS âÂ" Level 2 autonomy. The suit of its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems comprises 17 features, such as Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (car, pedestrian, cyclist, junction turning), Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Following Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Safe Exit Warning, Blind Spot Collision Warning, Blind Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Warning, and Rear Cross Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist. Notably, only the GTX+ and X-Line variants, priced at Rs 19.80 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (both introductory, ex-showroom), respectively, come with ADAS. There are available with the 1.5-litre turbo petrol DCT and 1.5-litre diesel six-speed automatic units.
MG ZS EVWhile the MG ZS EV is available in India for a while, it was the only vehicle, except the Comet EV, in the line-up to miss out on ADAS. The Gloster, Hector, and Astor were already available with this active safety feature. However, the brand recently launched a new ADAS-equipped ZS EV Exclusive Pro variant at Rs 27.90 lakh (ex-showroom). These variants come with Level 2 ADAS features, such as forward collision warning, blind spot detection, traffic jam assist, lane change assist, autonomous emergency braking, rear cross-traffic alert, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and speed assist systems.
The updated Honda City features ADAS technology in its V, VX and ZX trims. The prices of these variants range between Rs 12.48 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 16.08 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable ADAS-equipped vehicle available in the country. It features a Collasion Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Lane Keeping Assistant System, Adaptive Cruise Control, Auto High Beam, and Lead Car Departure Notification System. Meanwhile, the City e:HEV hybrid also comes with ADAS tech.
Hyundai VernaAfter the all-electric Ioniq 5 and new-gen Tucson, the all-new Hyundai Verna gets a suite of Level 2 ADAS is available in the SX (O) and SX (O) Turbo variants, with prices ranging between Rs 16.20 lakh and Rs 17.38 lakh (ex-showroom). Compared to the 2023 City, the new-gen Verna offers more advanced ADAS features, such as Forward Collision Avoidance Assist (Car, Cycle, Pedestrian, Junction Turning), Driver Attention Warning, Safe Exit Warning, Smart Cruise Control With Stop & Go, Lane Following Assist, High Beam Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Lane Departure Warning.
MG AstorMG's yet another car in the list to get ADAS is the Astor. The compact SUV comes with Level 2 autonomy. The Savvy trim of the Astor comes fitted with a range of ADAS functions, while customers can also choose a few features for sharp trim as an optional extra. Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Departure Prevention, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking (Pedestrian), Information Mode, Intelligent Mode, Manual Mode, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Intelligent Headlamp Control. Notably, it is priced between Rs 17 lakh and 18.69 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Mahindra XUV700 is the only SUV in the brand's range to feature ADAS in its top-spec AX7 variant. The carmaker has equipped it with eight ADAS features, including Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collison Warning, Smart Pilot Assist, High Beam Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Lane Keep Assist. Prices of XUV700 AX7 start at Rs 20.56 lakh and go up to Rs 26.18 lakh (ex-showroom).
MG HectorThe XUV700 rival of MG, the Hector and Hector Plus, have also received the Level 2 ADAS function, which is available in the range-topping Savvy Pro variants. Its prices of the Hector Savvy Pro start at Rs 22.09 lakh (ex-showroom), while the prices of the Hector Plus Savvy Pro start at Rs 22.79 lakh (ex-showroom). The ADAS feature-list of Hector pair consist of Adaptive Cruise Control, Bend Cruise Assistance, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning, Safe Distance Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Automatic Emergency Braking (Pedestrian), Intelligent Hydraulic Braking Assistance, Traffic Jam Assist, and Intelligent Headlamp Control.
BYD Atto 3Priced at Rs 34 lakh (ex-showroom), the BYD Atto 3 DiPilot ADAS system offers a wide range of active safety features. It comes fitted with features, such as Rear Cross Traffic Brake, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Door Open Warning, Rear and Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go. Meanwhile, the EV gets a 60.48kWh battery, providing an ARAI-tested driving range of 521km. It supports 7kW AC and 80kW DC chargers.
Tata Harrier and Safari
At the 2023 Auto Expo, Tata revealed the updated Harrier and Safari, that got new features alongside ADAS suite. The ADAS in the Harrier and Safari, is available only in range-topping XZA+ (O), comprising High Beam Assist, Forward Collison Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Change Alert, Door Open Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Rear Collison Warning. It does not get adaptive cruise control like other ADAS-equipped vehicles. While prices of the top-spec Safari XZA+ (O) start from Rs 24.66 lakh, the prices of the Harrier XZA+ (O) 23.82 lakh (both ex-showroom).
Toyota Innova HycrossThe new-gen Innova Hycross is the first-ever Toyota to get ADAS, which comes with Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert, Automatic High Beam, and Road Sign Assist, among others. The ZX (O) variant of the MPV gets Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 and is only offered with the 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, petrol engine paired with a strong-hybrid system with a combined power output of 186PS. This system is mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission. The price of the Innova Hycross ZX (O) is Rs 30.26 lakh (ex-showroom).
