Top five facts about the Mahindra Marazzo
The Mahindra Marazzo slots itself into a very interesting niche in the seven seater MPV space, positioning itself neatly between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta. And there's a number of reasons why the all-new Mahindra has potential to tick with the masses. It sits on an all-new chassis and is powered by an all-new engine that's mated to a brand new gearbox, apart from being loaded to the gills with features and equipment. Here's ten things about the Marazzo that we think you should be knowing about.
The Mahindra Marazzo has been priced very thoughtfully. The prices announced at launch are sure introductory, but given what the Marazzo is and what it brings to the table, this MPV does make itself sound very enticing. Pricing begins from Rs 9.99 lakh ex-showroom (pan-India) for the base M2 variant and goes up to Rs 13.90 lakh ex-showroom for the top of the line M8 variant that comes loaded with all the bells and whistles you'd expect of it. To give you a perspective, the fully-loaded diesel variant of the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga retails at Rs 10.83 lakh ex-showroom. At the other end of the spectrum is the Toyota Innova Crysta âÂ" its base (petrol) variant retails at Rs 14.65 lakh ex-showroom. This means that with its clever pricing the Mahindra Marazzo sits bang in between the two big names in the seven seater MPV space.
Engine
The Mahindra Marazzo marks the debut of Mahindra's all-new D15 engine which is a 1.5-litre, four cylinder diesel engine. The engine offers 122PS and 300Nm of torque and as we found out in our test drive at Mahindra's own test track, the engine feels extremely smooth and refined. It does not have the typical clattery sound at idle and sounds better than several diesel engines on the go as well. What's more, the engine has been tuned to offer peak torque between 1,750rpm and 2,500rpm apart from which Mahindra has also ensured the engine offers upwards of 170Nm 1,000rpm onwards to help acceleration from low speeds. The Marazzo also comes equipped with an Eco mode which drops the power output to 100PS, thereby helping boost fuel efficiency. ARAI certified fuel efficiency for the Marazzo stands at 17.6kmpl.
Air-conditioning
The Marazzo features an aircraft-like air-conditioning system for the second and third row of seats. The vents and controls for the same are mounted to the roof, as is the norm with most MPVs, but there's a big difference in the way the vents work. The vents and controls also look very pleasing aesthetically âÂ" they look good and are not too tall and do not intrude into headroom. Apart from the conventional vents for the direct blast of cold air, there's separate vents that send out diffused drafts of air and occupants can switch to either mode. The diffused mode sends out intermittent drafts of air, in an oscillating motion which helps in cooling the entire cabin better, as opposed to the direct blast which sends air only in the direction where the vents are pointed.
Infotainment system andÃÂ multi-information display
The M8 variant of the Mahindra Marazzo gets a full-fledged infotainment system with 8GB of internal memory. The system is controlled via a 7.25 inch touchscreen display and integrates Android Auto connectivity, navigation and also gives you vital information about the vehicle like tank range etc. The screen integrates haptic feedback, which essentially means that every time you touch the screen it will vibrate a little to let you know the touch has been registered. More importantly, it includes an Eco Sense guide which gives you details about your trips including fuel efficiency, top speed, average speed and the like, apart from telling you how efficiently you have been driving, basis parameters like speed, gear selection, acceleration and idle time. On the connectivity front, the Marazzo boasts two USB ports upfront, apart from AUX and Bluetooth connectivity. The infotainment screen can be used for viewing photos and is video compatible too. Second row occupants get a single USB port as well, though that's for charging devices only.
The Marazzo also gets a 4.2 inch multi-colour display that sits between the tachometer and speedometer in the instrument cluster. This display can offer turn by turn navigation, apart from offering a lot of information about the vehicle. For instance, if the wheels are not pointed straight when you turn the engine on, the display will tell you to align the wheels. Of course, the display gives you vital information like tank range, current and average fuel efficiency and the like as well. Interestingly, Mahindra has also integrated an event reminder into the display âÂ" you can key in your birthday or anniversary date and the display will remind you of the same! Well, if that's not enough, the display also includes a stopwatch.
Sunshades
The second row of the Mahindra Marazzo gets retractable sunshades for the second row windows, which again is a segment first. Mahindra states that this should help in providing privacy to second row occupants, as also help protect them from harsh sunlight considering the ban on dark films.
