Toyota Prius celebrates 20th anniversary with special edition

Toyota has introduced a special edition of the Toyota Prius to celebrate the hybrid car's 20th anniversary in the American market. The Prius was the world's first production hybrid, launched in the US in April 2000, after going on sale in Japan in 1997. There have been four generations since, with over 60 lakh units being sold worldwide.

To celebrate this, Toyota is offering 2,020 units of the Prius 2020 Edition. This is based on the XLE trim and can be had in two colour options: Supersonic Red or the new Wind Chill Pearl. The 2020 Edition also features unique black exterior trim. These include black inserts for the 17-inch alloy wheels, blackout headlight components, B-pillars and mirror housings. Unique to the Prius 2020 Edition are a '2020' insignia key fob and floor mats, as well as a black shift knob, interior A-pillar trim and smoked AC vents. A colour-coded real-spoiler has also been added.

The Prius already comes very well-equipped, there are standard Bi-LED headlamps and LED rear combination lamps. The XLE trim gets automatic light wipers, keyless entry, faux leather upholstery, a power-adjustable driver's seat with tilt and telescopic steering, climate control and a wireless charger. A head-up display and adaptive headlights can be optioned separately. For this year, there is Android Auto compatibility and Toyota's latest Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 driver assistance system.

The fourth-gen Prius is powered by a 1.8-litre Atkinson cycle naturally aspirated petrol engine that pairs with either one or two electric motors. This produces 121PS. The electric motor makes 71PS and 163 Nm. Fuel efficiency is rated at 22kmpl.
