Triumph Speed Twin launched in India at Rs 9.46 lakh

The Triumph Speed Twin is the newest addition to the British bike maker's retro-classic Bonneville family and has been launched in India, priced at Rs 9.46 lakh ex-showroom pan India. The Speed Twin is effectively the eighth model from the current generation Bonneville family to get launched in India. It uses the same 1,200cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing 97PS and 112Nm, mated to a six-speed transmission, which is the same powertrain as the Triumph Thruxton R.

The Speed Twin though looks like a bigger, more muscular version of the Triumph Street Twin, the base model in the current generation Bonneville family. The detailing on the motorcycle makes for a sportier and more premium appearance though, in keeping with its positioning as one of the most powerful and more expensive models in the family. Braking duties on the Speed Twin are taken care of by dual 305mm discs and Brembo four-piston callipers up front, while a single, 220mm disc held by a Nissin calliper performs duty at the rear end.

It wouldn't be wrong to say the Triumph Speed Twin is the more performance oriented member of the Bonneville family, just like the Thruxton R. In fact the engine on the Speed Twin is 2.5kg lighter than the one on the Thruxton R thanks to the employment of magnesium cam covers and lighter engine covers and a new clutch assembly. The Speed Twin's wheels are also lighter, apart from which the bike is suspended on 41mm cartridge type forks at the front with 120mm travel and hydraulic twin shock absorbers at the rear, also with 120mm travel.

The instrument cluster is a retro-looking, twin-pod unit with nice-looking dials and very premium finish. In terms of rider aids, the Speed Twin comes equipped with switchable traction control, ABS and three riding modes including Rain, Road and Sport.
