Ultraviolette F99 Evolution: Auto Expo 2023 vs EICMA 2023
Ultraviolette unveiled the F99 Factory Racing Platform at EICMA 2023 in Milan, simultaneously launching the A1 and A2 licenses-compliant F77 in the European market. While the F99 was initially showcased at India's Auto Expo 2023 in January, the model revealed at the Milan Motorcycle Show exhibits substantial differences from its earlier iteration. This examination delves into the modifications that distinguish the new F99 from its predecessor.
The F99 showcased at Auto Expo 2023 and EICMA 2023 displays notable transformations in overall styling. A prominent enhancement in the new F99 is the introduction of active aerodynamics. Drawing inspiration from supersonic fighter jet principles, the motorcycle features an active windscreen, termed "Air Shield," guiding air over the rider's helmet. In conjunction, air inlets near the headlight unit direct air to the motor, compressing and releasing it through veins. This windscreen creates a high-velocity air molecule barrier, optimising airflow over the rider's helmet to reduce drag.
Moreover, the Air-Blade in the side fairing incorporates a real-time electronically actuated system adapting to lean angles, enhancing downforce during cornering. Additional winglets at the front and rear improve aerodynamic efficiency, enabling the new F99 to reach a claimed top speed of 265kmph, an increase of 65kmph from the previous model. The motorcycle integrates carbon fibre into its active aerodynamics components, contributing to an aero drag coefficient of 0.45 and a kerb weight of 178kg.
The Key design distinctions between the F99 showcased at Auto Expo 2023 and the latest EICMA 2023 model include a new fascia with a V-shaped headlight, a redesigned swing arm, golden USD front forks, a redesigned fairing and muscular tank, a reworked tail section, and wheel covers at both ends.
Ultraviolette F99 Factory Racing Platform: Powertrain and Specifications
The new F99 adopts a 400V architecture, a notable upgrade from the 120V on the F99 displayed at the 2023 Auto Expo. In contrast, the F77 utilises a 60V battery architecture. Additionally, the latest F99 incorporates a liquid-cooled electric motor and controller.
The motor now delivers a maximum power output of 90 kW, a substantial increase from the 50 kW of the F99 showcased at Auto Expo 2023. Ultraviolette claims the new F99 can accelerate from zero to 100kmph in a claimed 3 seconds. Meanwhile, noteworthy specs include Ohlins suspension, a Brembo braking system, and Pirelli Supercorsa rubber - 120/70 R17 front and 180/55 R17 rear - tailored for track performance.
