Upcoming Hyundai Creta spied testing in India; launch expected in early 2024

The Hyundai Creta facelift has now been spied testing on Indian roads for the very first time. While multiple prototypes have been discovered in foreign countries, this is the first time the SUV has been observed testing in India. Hyundai is working on a brand new Creta design that will be radically different from the models marketed in other countries.

Upcoming Hyundai Creta: Design

The spy photos show the test mule wrapped in black sheets. While we can see the new dual-tone alloy wheels, the front fascia is mostly hidden. However, like with the global-spec Creta, the one that will be launched here will have the brand's new parametric jewel pattern for the grille and vertically stacked LED headlights on the bumper.

Expect a revised tailgate, a new bumper, and new LED taillights, maybe linked by an LED light bar like seen on other Hyundai SUVs - but nothing is evident on this test mule. There has also been no word on the inside, although a redesigned dashboard design with a significant step up in amenities might be on the way.

Upcoming Hyundai Creta: Engine and Features

The 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines will be carried over to the 2023 Creta, while the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine will be phased out. It is, however, likely to be replaced with a strong 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which also powers the new Hyundai Verna.

The Hyundai Creta now receives practically everything. Hyundai also introduced 3-point seatbelts, adjustable headrests, 60:40 split rear seats, and 2-step reclinable rear seats in the most recent version. Notable features include a panoramic sunroof, rear window blinds, rear AC vents, electrically adjustable front seats, front seat ventilation, a big infotainment screen and digital instrument cluster, and LED lighting.

Upcoming Hyundai Creta: India launch

Hyundai plans to begin production of the updated Creta at its Chennai facility in mid-January 2024, with a market debut in February 2024. It will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, MG Astor, Toyota Hyryder, and the planned Kia Seltos after its introduction.
