Upcoming Tata Altroz Racer teased ahead of debut next month
Tata Motors has published a teaser for the Altroz Racer, which is set to debut next month. We already know the majority of the specs, including the powertrain and features of the upcoming sportier iteration of the Altroz, and now we expect the model's reservations to commence in the coming days.
The Altroz Racer will not have any design alterations to the bodywork. Dimensions of the car will remain the same as the normal Altroz with a wheelbase of 2,501mm. It will get stylistic features that improve its athletic appeal when compared to the standard car though. The revisions will include a reworked grille with a mesh-like pattern and a new set of 16-inch blacked-out alloy wheels.
Tata will most likely offer the Racer with a single dual-tone paint job that combines red and black colour. It will also get dual white racing stripes that start from the bonnet and run till the end of the roof. There's also a 'RACER' badge placed at the bottom of the A-pillar.
Tata Altroz Racer: Powertrain and Transmission
The major difference between the standard Altroz and the Altroz Racer will be under the hood. The Racer will derive power from a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 120PS at 5,500 rpm and 170Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. This is the same engine found in the Tata Nexon.
Unlike the 5-speed manual found in the regular Altroz, the Racer will get a 6-speed transmission. Tata might also offer the Racer with a 7-speed DCT.
Tata Altroz Racer: Interior and Features
Inside, the Altroz Racer will have an all-black dashboard and black leatherette seat upholstery. For a more sporty look, the seats and steering wheel will be stitched in contrast. The features include ventilated leatherette seats, a voice-activated electric sunroof, a head-up display, a 360-degree surround-view camera system, a wireless charger, a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with all vehicle connect technologies and a 7-inch TFT digital cluster. On the safety aspect, it is anticipated to include six airbags and electronic stability control (ESC) as standard.
Tata Altroz Racer: Prices
Currently, the Tata Altroz is priced from Rs 6.65 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). Tata Motors also currently offers the Altorz i-Turbo with a turbocharged engine at Rs 9.70 lakh. We expect that to be sold alongside the Racer which could be priced somewhere between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). The Altroz Racer will rival the Hyundai i20 N Line and Maruti Suzuki Fronx.
