Video worth watching: The McLaren P1 LM is now the fastest road-legal car up Goodwood
The McLaren P1 LM, the road-going version of the ballistic P1 GTR, was revealed at the 2016 Goodwood Festival of Speed. Made by British company Lanzante, the McLaren P1 LM is essentially a P1 GTR modified until it's street legal. Producing 1,000PS on regular fuel from a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged hybrid powerplant, the P1 LM can produce the same power as the GTR, thanks to an increased boost pressure from the turbos.
Lanzante didn't stop there, though. A number of extra modifications were applied to complete the transformation, including polycarbonate windows, removal of the air jack, a new exhaust system and additional carbon-fibre used everywhere. This has resulted in a 50kg weight loss over the P1 GTR which was already 60kg lighter than the regular P1. As an extra touch, Lanzante also lined the engine bay with gold to pay tribute to the legendary McLaren F1.
On its record hillclimb at Goodwood, the P1 LM was piloted by Swedish racecar driver Kenny Brack, so it's safe to say that it was in very capable hands. Completing the 1.86km course in a frighteningly quick 47.07 seconds, the P1 LM beat the previous road-going car record of 49.27 seconds, set by the Nissan GT-R Nismo. Not only that, the P1 LM also beat a few purpose-built hillclimb cars in the process.
Take a look at the frightening pace of the McLaren P1 LM below.
