VinFast lays foundation stone of its new EV production facility in Tamil Nadu

VinFast, Vietnam's electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, has officially commenced construction of its first-ever integrated EV manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu, India. Dignitaries, such as M. K. Stalin, Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and Dr. T. R. B. Rajaa, Minister for Industries, attended the ceremony. The company said that this significant project underscores its commitment to global green transportation strategies and is set to generate employment opportunities for approximately 3,500 local workers.

Spanning 400 acres within the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu (SIPCOT) industrial estate, the facility represents an initial investment of $500 million over the next five years. This facility is expected to have an annual production capacity of 150,000 vehicles.

The project aims to strengthen partnerships with leading global suppliers while emphasising localisation efforts to contribute positively to the local economy. This strategic initiative not only enhances VinFast's global presence but also strengthens the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and India, said VinFast.

The facility in Tamil Nadu joins its existing manufacturing complex in Vietnam and expects future plants in the United States and Indonesia to form a robust global manufacturing ecosystem. In addition to manufacturing, VinFast plans to establish a nationwide dealership network in India to create the brand presence.
