Volkswagen Taigun leads the charge in Volkswagen India's October sales
The Volkswagen Taigun SUV has been crucial to the German automaker's strong rise this holiday season. When compared to the same month last year, Volkswagen's sales increased by roughly 50 percent in October.
In October, Volkswagen sold 3,077 automobiles, up from 2,054 in October of the previous year. In September, Volkswagen sold 2,563 units, an increase of roughly 18 percent from the previous month's sales of 3,077 units. Volkswagen only sold 2,026 vehicles in September of last year.
Though the effect of the Covid-19 outbreak on the car industry as a whole may make a fair comparison impossible, Volkswagen's month-over-month sales performance has improved dramatically.
The popularity of Volkswagen's recently released Taigun SUV is driving the company's expansion. The Taigun has contributed 1,461 units to the overall sales in September. Though Volkswagen has not released sales figures for October, the automaker has acknowledged that more than 18,000 Taigun reservations have been made since the SUV's premiere in September.
The Volkswagen Taigun is being offered with two petrol engines, no diesel is available. The range starts with the familiar 1-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 115PS and 175 Nm, offered in the low to mid-spec versions of this new Volkswagen SUV. With a six-speed manual, the six-speed torque converter from the Vento is also available. The 1.5-litre turbo-petrol that makes 150PS/250 Nm and pairs with a seven-speed DSG is being offered on higher trims. The larger engine gets a six-speed manual as well in an entry GT variant. The top GT version is offered in the 1.5 turbo and DSG combination.
The 1-litre manual versions of the Volkswagen Taigun return a fuel efficiency of 18.10 kmpl which drops to 16.44 kmpl for the six-speed AT versions. The 1.5-litre GT variants return 18.47 kmpl with the manual and 17.88 kmpl with the DSG.
Commenting on the announcement, Ashish Gupta, Brand Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said, "We are excited with the immense love and wide acceptance that the Taigun has received from all our patrons. Within the first month of launching the Taigun, we have witnessed close to 50 percent growth in our overall sales volume in the month of Oct 21 vis--vis the same month last year. Considering the high demand for our carlines and with the ongoing industry-wide semiconductor shortage affecting the supply situation, we are working along with our dealer partners towards prioritizing deliveries to our customers. We would like to thank our customers for their trust in the brand Volkswagen, appreciate their patience and continued patronage."
