Volkswagen unveil the ID LIFE concept at the IAA exhibition
Volkswagen is attempting to make EV's more affordable for the younger generation as well as for the larger crowds and has taken off the covers to reveal the ID. LIFE concept car, at the International Motor Show IAA MOBILITY 2021 in Munich.
The ID concept vehicle blends sustainability and digitalization with a wide range of applications. The ID. LIFE may be transformed into a mini-cinema, a gaming centre, or simply a place to relax in the open air. The ID. LIFE is a fully electric small car that Volkswagen is expected to launch in 2025 and should cost approximately 20,000 euros.
"The ID. LIFE is our vision of next-generation fully electric urban mobility. The concept car provides a preview of an ID. model in the small car segment that we will be launching in 2025, priced at around 20,000 euros. This means we are making electric mobility accessible to even more people" said the CEO of Volkswagen, Ralf Brandsttter.
The ID. LIFE has a stunningly straightforward, pared-down, and high-quality design. Decorative components and add-on sections, as well as any complicated combination of materials, are omitted. The car's purest look is aided by the horizontal separation between the body, glass surfaces, and roof. The ID. LIFE has a personalised and detachable roof made of air chamber cloth that gives it an open-air sensation while also lowering vehicle weight.
The ID. LIFE is based on a scaled-down version of Volkswagen's modular electric drive matrix (MEB), which was created particularly for the small vehicle market. This is the first time an MEB-based vehicle had front-wheel drive. The ID. LIFE sprints from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds, thanks to its electric motor that produces 234PS, and has a range of 400 kilometres thanks to its 57 kWh high-voltage battery (WLTP).
The ID. LIFE may also be quickly transformed into a movie or gaming room. A video gaming console and projector are included in the car, as well as a projection screen that expands from the dash panel as needed. Other devices can be connected to the interior's 230-volt, 16-amp power supply as needed.
In line with the notion of the automobile as a companion for various situations and lifestyles, the seating design is also very adaptable. The front seat bench, as well as the back seat bench, maybe entirely folded down. This opens up a world of options, ranging from theatre seats to a two-metre-long bed to a cargo variant that maximises luggage capacity.
Both the outside and interior mirrors are replaced by cameras and a display. A touch panel on the hexagonal, open-topped steering wheel controls essential driving functions, and a smartphone may be incorporated into the operating system.
Another important step toward completely electrified transportation is the extension of the ID. family into the compact vehicle sector, with pricing beginning at 20,000 euros. Volkswagen intends to boost the percentage of all-electric vehicles in total vehicle sales in Europe to at least 70 percent by 2030 and to at least 50 percent in North America and China.
