Volvo Cars celebrates its 96th anniversary
Volvo Cars, the Swedish luxury car marque, is celebrating its 96th anniversary around the globe. Volvo Cars India has also joined in the celebrations. On the occasion, its employees drove a fleet of Volvo cars around Delhi NCR. Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director, Volvo Cars India, led the vehicle line-up with the all-electric XC40 Recharge.
Volvo Cars History
The history of Volvo Cars goes back many decades. It began manufacturing automobiles in 1927. The first-ever Volvo car rolled out from the Gothenburg facility on the west coast of Sweden on 14 April, 1927. It was an open tourer with a four-cylinder engine, called the ÃV4. The automaker made history in 1959 as its engineer introduced three-point safety belts into series production. Volvo waived its patent rights, so other carmakers could leverage the technology. The brand also invented reward-facing child seats that spread the load and minimise injury.

The carmaker entered the Indian market in 2007 with its S80 saloon and XC90 SUV. The company commenced its operations with three dealerships, namely Mumbai, Delhi, and Chandigarh. Now, the brand has 25 touchpoints in various major cities.
Volvo Cars India retails the XC40, XC60, XC90, S90, and XC40 Recharge. It had allocated only 150 units of the XC40 Recharged to India and all the units of the electric vehicle (EV) were sold out within two hours of bookings commencement. Notably, the XC40 Recharged is being assembled at its Hoskote facility in Bangalore, Karnataka. The brand now plans to launch the C40 Recharge sometime this year.
