Volvo Cars India to appoint Jyoti Malhotra as director of sales and marketing
Volvo Cars India is likely to make a new senior management appointment announcement soon. According to an ET Auto report, the manufacturer will be appointing Jyoti Malhotra as their new director of sales and marketing by August 2016. In this new role Malhotra will report directly to Tom von Bonsdorff, managing director, Volvo India. It is not yet clear what his exact roles and responsibilities will be.
Malhotra is an automobile industry veteran with over two decades of work experience. According to the report, he has recently resigned from Mahindra and Mahindra where he held the position of vice president, auto division sales. He held this position for around two years. He joined Mahindra and Mahindra in 2010 and was responsible for increasing business of automotive division in the North Zone.
Prior to this he was the head of sales and channel marketing at Mahindra Renault. He had joined Mahindra Renault in 2008. Before this stint he worked with India's largest car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki for eight years from 2000. In that job profile too he was responsible for increasing sales. Jyoti Malhotra is an University of Michigan alumni.
It also being reported that Mahindra and Mahindra has hired Amit Sagar to fill up the position left vacant by Malhotra's resignation. Amit previously held the position of head of sales at Skoda Auto and prior to that he has worked with Tata Motors for 15 years.
In a bid to ramp up sales, Mahindra and Mahindra have been rolling out new products. It recently launched the Mahindra eVerito which is the only electric sedan that you can buy in our country. The company has officially announced that in the next one and a half years it will launch a new crossover. This new Mahindra crossover is based on the same X100 platform that also underpins the SsangYong Tivoli. Once launched, it is expected to get the company's new 1.5-litre petrol engine.
