Honda QC 1 Review: Of Convenience and Compromise
Today we're reviewing the more budget-friendly electric scooter, the QC1 â€" one of Honda's two electric scooter offering in India. Positioned as a basic offering in their electric range, the QC1 promises practical performance and convenience for city commuting.
Design & Features
At first glance, the QC1 presents a familiar design language with LED headlamps and DRLs. It's only available in one variant and features a drum brake up front, which sets it apart from the Activa e. Priced at ₹90,000 ex-showroom, this model is equipped with a fixed 1.5kWh battery under the footboard, providing adequate under-seat storage of 26 litres, unlike the Activa e.
The QC1 is powered by a hub-mounted motor, producing a peak power output of 1.8kW, which isn't particularly thrilling on paper. It features basic 5-inch LCD instrumentation that provides essential information like battery percentage, speed, and odometer readings.
Ride, Handling & Performance
When it comes to ride quality, the QC1 offers a stiffer suspension setup in comparison to the Activa e, which can make urban commuting feel a bit more jarring over rough surfaces. It boasts two ride modes: Economy and Standard, with a top speed of 30kmph in Economy and 50kmph in Standard. However, performance is nothing to write home about when you venture onto open roads; it might feel underpowered, making highway rides an unnerving experience.
While the scooter feels light and nimbleâ€"weighting around 89kg overallâ€"acceleration is lackluster, especially if you need to start from a halt. This can be concerning if you're navigating busy intersections or entering busy roads.
Charging & Storage
One of the QC1's standout features is its fixed battery that can be charged at home with a 330W charger. It takes about 6.5 hours for a complete charge, which is a downside for those looking for fast charging options. However, the trade-off is considerable under-seat storage, allowing you to carry essentials without worrying about where to place your items.
Conclusion
The Honda QC1 operates effectively within the confines of urban commuting, but it does fall short on performance, especially for longer rides or highway use. If your daily routine revolves around short trips, perhaps to college or work in nearby areas, the QC1 can serve you well. It may not be exhilarating, but it definitely offers the reliability that comes with Honda's reputation.
In summary, while the QC1 is a practical choice for city dwellers, those seeking performance or speed might be better off exploring other options. It's essential to evaluate your daily commuting needs before deciding if the QC1 aligns with your lifestyle.
