Spec Comparo: TVS Apache RTR 200 vs Bajaj Pulsar 200NS vs KTM 200 Duke
TVS has just taken the wraps off the new Apache RTR 200 4V. The street fighter design looks appealing and TVS has managed to pull off a good looking motorcycle. Its large fuel tank and mean looking LED lights in the headlamp add to the muscular profile. TVS has developed an all new chassis that includes a monoshock suspension at the rear, a first from TVS.
The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is powered by an air-oil cooled, single cylinder carburetted/fuel injected 197.7cc engine that puts out 20.5PS/21PS at 8,500rpm and 18.1Nm at 7,000rpm. We expected a 6-speed gearbox, however, the Apache RTR 200 comes with a 5-speed unit. TVS claims a 0-60kmph time of 3.9s while the 0-100kmph dash is completed in 11.2s.
The Pulsar 200NS in many ways is a much improved Bajaj than its stablemates. The 200NS gets Bajaj's triple spark technology, liquid cooling but no fuel injection. The 200cc engine produces 23.52PS at 9,500rpm and 18.30Nm at 8,000rpm. The 200NS figures are marginally behind the 200 Duke that has a similar liquid-cooled 200cc engine but puts out 25.20PS/19.02Nm.
The KTM 200 Duke revolutionised affordable performance biking in India. It also helped establish the Austrian brand here. It's always up for mischief and its short gearing and super revvy motor made it a demanding, committed motorcycle. It's aimed at hardcore motorcyclists and hence is not the most practical of the lot.
We're yet to road test the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, but now that our first ride is done, a proper comparison will follow soon. Meanwhile, here is a spec comparo that'll give you a fair idea of how these motorcycles stack up on paper.
