2022 Kia Carens launched in India at Rs 8.99 lakh ex-showroom
Kia India has just launched the Kia Carens at Rs 8.99 lakh, going up to Rs 16.99 lakh, all prices being introductory ex-showroom. The Kia Carens is the three-row derivative of the Kia Seltos and is aimed at both SUV and MPV buyers.
Kia started accepting bookings a month ago for the Kia Carens and deliveries are expected to begin shortly now that the vehicle is finally launched. The Kia Carens is 4,540mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,708mm tall and has a 2,780mm wheelbase. The wheelbase is 20mm longer than the Hyundai Alcazar while the Carens is 40mm longer, 10mm wider and 33mm taller.
The new Kia Carens is available in Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus variants in six or seven-seater options.
The Kia Carens' engine options are the same as the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta. The 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol from the Alcazar has been given a miss here but the top-spec engine option is the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol that puts out 140PS and 242 Nm. This pairs with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT. The diesel engine option is a 1.5-litre unit that puts out 115PS and 250 Nm, mated to a six-speed manual or torque converter. The base engine option is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol that makes 115PS and 144 Nm and is only available with the manual. ARAI certified fuel efficiency figures for the petrol stand at 16.5kmpl, while the diesel is rated for 21.3kmpl.
Notable features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with eight-speaker Bose audio, 64-colour ambient lighting, air purifier, connected-car tech, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, sunroof, 16-inch dual-tone alloys, LED DRLS and headlamps and LED taillamps.
Practicality touches include tumble fold second-row seats, roof-mounted second and third row AC vents with blower controls, second-row puddle lamps, front cooled cupholders and second row can holders, retractable seatback table with cupholders and gadget mounts, sliding under-seat tray, retractable cup holder and tray.
The Kia Carens also comes with an impressive suite of safety features. Standard are six airbags, ESC, ABS, stability control, brake assist, all-wheel disc brakes, highline TPMS and rear parking sensors. Higher variants further get front parking sensors, real-time TPMS and a rear-view camera. The Kia Carens is expected to compete against its cousin, the Hyundai Alcazar in the Indian market.
