2022 Kia Carens to be available in three engine options across five variants, specifications revealed
Ahead of bookings opening for the Kia Carens on January 14, Kia India has revealed significant details about the upcoming MPV. The Kia Carens will share its engines with the Seltos but will be offered in five variants with numerous features spread across these.
2022 Kia Carens dimensions, engines
The Kia Carens is 4,540mm long, 1,800mm wide, 1,708mm tall and has a 2,780mm wheelbase. The wheelbase is the same as the Hyundai Alcazar while the Carens is 40mm longer, 10mm wider and 33mm taller. The Carens will be available in Imperial Blue, Moss Brown, Sparkling Silver, Intense Red, Aurora Black Pearl, Gravity Grey, Glacier White Pearl and Clear White paint shades, the first three of which have been introduced to a Kia model for the first time.
The Carens' engine options are the same as the Seltos and the Creta. The 2.0-litre naturally-aspirated petrol from the Alcazar has been given a miss here but the top spec engine option is the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol that puts out 140PS and 242 Nm. This pairs with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT. The diesel engine option is a 1.5-litre unit that puts out 115PS and 250 Nm, mated to a six-speed manual or torque converter. The base engine option is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol that makes 115PS and 144 Nm and is only available with the manual.
2022 Kia Carens variants, features, safety
The new Kia will be available in Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury and Luxury Plus variants although the exact features and seating(6 or 7) options haven't been revealed yet. Notable features include a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with eight-speaker Bose audio, 64-colour ambient lighting, air purifier, connected-car tech, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, sunroof, 16-inch dual-tone alloys, LED DRLS and headlamps and LED taillamps.
Practicality touches include tumble fold second-row seats, roof-mounted second and third row AC vents with blower controls, second-row puddle lamps, front cooled cupholders and second row can holders, retractable seatback table with cupholders and gadget mounts, sliding under-seat tray, retractable cup holder and tray.
The Kia Carens also carries an impressive suite of safety features. Standard are six airbags, ESC, ABS, stability control, brake assist, all-wheel disc brakes, highline TPMS and rear parking senors. Higher variants further get front parking sensors, real-time TPMS and a rear-view camera.
Kia Carens launch date, price
The Kia Carens should compete with the Hyundai Alcazar on price, which should range between Rs 15 to 20 lakh ex-showroom. The Carens will go on sale by February to march 2022 in India and other global markets.
