2022 Toyota Glanza Vs Maruti Suzuki Baleno: What's different?
With the 2022 Toyota Glanza having just been launched, the hatchback segment in India gets fiercely competitive. The facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno too was launched just a few ago. Although the Toyota Glanza and the Maruti Suzuki Baleno are the same cars to the naked eye, there are certain factors that separate these two from each other.
Both hatchbacks are powered by the same 1.2-litre DualJet petrol motor, which puts out 90PS and 113 Nm. This pairs with a five-speed manual and AMT. The fuel efficiency figure also remains very similar, at 22.9 kmpl for the AMT.
The one clear difference between these two cousins is the front bumper. The 2022 Toyota Glanza gets a bit more aggressive-looking bumper compared to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. Toyota has also put in efforts to make the front grille of the hatchback stand out a little bit from its Maruti Suzuki counterpart.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno also has a lower starting price of Rs 6.35 lakh, which is Rs 4,000 less than the introductory price on the Toyota Glanza. This gets better once you start going up the variants as the top variant of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno costs from Rs 8.99 lakh (manual) and Rs 9.49 lakh (automatic). For comparison, that's Rs 20,000 cheaper than the top variants of the Toyota Glanza.
The Toyota gets the same three year/unlimited km warranty as the Maruti Suzuki Baleno but it has an additional trick up its sleeve. The Toyota Glanza's warranty can be extended to a segment-leading five-year/2.2 lakh km.
The 2022 Toyota Glanza and Maruti Suzuki Baleno get the new 9.0-inch Smartplay Pro touchscreen infotainment along with the new dash layout and materials, although the grey and blue theme from the Baleno has been replaced with a grey and beige colour combination In the Glanza. Both cars also feature two different sets of connected car tech features.
The Toyota Glanza and Maruti Suzuki Baleno will compete with the likes of the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and Tata Altroz in the Indian hatchback market.
