2022 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR - global reveal
If you are the sort who was waiting anxiously for the day a litre-class Daytona or a retro classic caf racer with over 150PS would roll out of Triumph Motorcycle's production line, well, there's good news for you! Your day has finally arrived, because Triumph has officially pulled the covers off the 2022 Speed Triple 1200 RR.
From the pictures, the 2022 Speed Triple 1200 RR looks simply outstanding and will surely look a lot better in the flesh. It's got a semi-faired caf racer front end with its own distinct LED DRL headlight unit and gets premium detailing bits like the carbon fibre infill panels, tank, side panels, front mudguard, fairing and cockpit. The new Triple RR also gets a brushed stainless-steel single silencer with black end cap which compliments the overall look of the bike and also features a distinctive rear light integrated into the tail unit with unique light signature, plus LED self-cancelling indicators. The new bike is said to be a more aggressive and sport-focused version of the latest generation Speed Triple RS naked. Both the 1200 RS and the RR motorcycles have some of their parts in common. The 1,160cc engine remains unchanged, which means the RR gets the same liquid-cooled, DOHC, in-line three that produces 180PS of max power at 10,750rpm and 125Nm of grunt at 9,000rpm. Both the RR and the RS also share the same aluminium frame, subframe and fuel tank as well, but that's about it as far as similarities go.
Behind the wind deflector of the semi-faired bike sits a 5-inch TFT dash with Bluetooth connectivity. There are four riding modes to choose from, Rain, Road, Sport, Track, as well as a customisable mode with each mode comprising variations in throttle and suspension maps as well as levels of intervention of ABS and traction control. Additional ride-enhancing technology on the bike includes full keyless system, illuminated switch cubes and fully adjustable cruise control.
As with the Speed Triple 1200 RS, the RR comes with a full suite of state-of-the-art rider aids, electronics and convenience features designed to not only make the ride easier and safer, but also deliver a tailored set-up for different riding scenarios. The new Speed Triple RR promises to be the most exhilarating-to-ride Speed Triple ride ever, with its Ãhlins Smart EC 2.0 electronically adjustable semi-active front and rear suspension â" which is currently the most advanced suspension system from Ãhlins. The RR's clip-on bars are 135mm lower and 50mm further forward and are narrower than those on the Speed Triple 1200 RS. The Speed Triple 1200 RR also gets better stopping power in the form of Brembo Stylema brakes with linked braking system with an adjustable Brembo MCS lever. The bike also gets a bi-directional quickshifter, cornering ABS, switchable cornering traction control (with IMU) and an anti-wheelie system.
The Speed Triple 1200 RRs' 17-inch cast aluminium wheels are fitted with the Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP V3 tyres which should deliver good stability and grip on both, track and road while the stickier Supercorsa SC2 V3 treads can also be had as an option.
The 2022 Triumph Triple 1200 RR can be had in Red Hopper & Storm Grey, and Crystal While & Storm Grey. The bike has been priced at £17,950 (On-road) and will go on sale in international markets from January 2022. When the bike will reach Indian shores, remains unknown, but for now, we'll just have to contend with the Triumph Triple 1200 RS.
