2024 BMW 5 Series LWB launched in India at Rs 72.90 lakh
BMW has launched the new 5 Series long wheelbase (LWB) in India at Rs 72.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The saloon is now available in a single trim called the 530Li M Sport. It is to be noted that India is the first right-hand drive market and only the second market after China to get the 5 Series LWB. Not to mention, the brand produces its Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB rival at its BMW Group Plant in Chennai.
BMW 5 Series LWB: Design
BMW showcased the 5 Series LWB alongside the electric i5 for the Chinese market in late 2023. These extended wheelbase versions promise more legroom and enhanced rear-seat comfort. For instance, the 5 Series LWB measures 5,175mm long, 1,900mm wide and 1,520mm tall with a wheelbase of 3,105mm. It is 145mm longer in length and has an additional wheelbase of 110mm over the regular 5 Series.
While the 5 Series LWB features a design identical to the standard 5 Series, a few elements set them apart. The 5 Series LWB keeps the illuminated kidney grille, but with a new bronze-finished frame. These bronze highlights also extend to the window frames, wheels, and bumpers. Additionally, the C-pillar, famously known as the Hofmeister kink, adorns an engraved and illuminated "5" numeric. Interestingly, the emblem glows in white for the 5 Series LWB, while it turns blue for the i5.
BMW 5 Series LWB: Interior
The addition of interior refinements distinguishes the long-wheelbase 5 Series as a saloon suitable for chauffeur-driven transportation. Complementing the unique exterior accents are door panels with bronze insets. It also boasts the BMW Curved Display comprising a 12.3-inch driver screen and a 14.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, crafted clarity glass controls, and upgraded rear seats with distinctive leather upholstery and headrest cushions.
BMW 5 Series LWB: Features
Other features include an 18-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, four-zone temperature control, electronically adjustable seats with memory setting and massage function, ambient lighting, reversing assistant, and more. Although a primary focus is on the rear-seat comfort, the 5 Series LWB for the Indian market misses out on the BMW Theater Screen 31.1-inch curved 8K display with 5G support.
BMW 5 Series LWB: Engine specifications
The India-spec 530Li M Sport gets a 2.0-litre, inline four-cylinder petrol engine that generates 208PS and 330Nm of torque. In fact, it is now paired with a 48V mild hybrid assistance and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
BMW 5 Series LWB: Rivals
The new 5 Series long wheelbase takes on the Audi A6, Volvo S90, and the upcoming all-new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB.
