Porsche has just confirmed that the all-electric Cayenne is on its way. But not so soon. The fourth-generation Cayenne will debut in the second half of the decade as an EV but Porsche is working on keeping hybrid and gas models around for a while. While the Germany-based brand has teased the prototype of the electric Cayenne, they also shared that the production-spec car will only be made available closer to 2030, and even there on, the Cayenne will be sold with 3 powertrains: Petrol, Plug-in Hybrid and EV.

Porsche plans to keep developing improvements to the current generation Cayenne, such as expanding the range of available powertrains and increasing the efficiency of the V-8 engine to comply with upcoming emissions standards.

The 800-volt Premium Platform Electric (PPE) design, which was co-developed with Audi will be the foundation for the fourth-generation Cayenne EV. Currently, Audi and Porsche use this architecture in the Q6 e-tron and Macan EV, respectively. Oliver Blume, CEO of Porsche Porsche AG commented "Our product strategy could enable us to deliver more than 80% of our new cars fully electrified in 2030 - depending on the demand of our customers and the development of electromobility in the regions of the world."

Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development at Porsche AG said "The flexibility of the PPE architecture allows us to integrate the latest technology in the fields of high-voltage systems, powertrain and chassis. We are going to utilise the potential of electrification to take the Cayenne to a completely new level in a number of ways â€" for instance, in driving performance".

Last year, the third-generation Cayenne underwent a significant update. There are presently a few powertrain choices available. These consist of a 4.0-liter turbocharged V8 and a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, both of which have plug-in hybrid options. Porsche has stated that it will keep working on the third-generation Cayenne to support petrol engines and that it will go on sale with the all-electric fourth-generation Cayenne.
