All-new Lexus GX makes global debut
Lexus has unveiled the all-new GX globally. The generation update has brought significant changes to the off-road SUV, such as a new platform, upgraded powertrain, and a fresh look inside and out. Introduced in 2002, especially for the North American market, the GX sits between the LX and RX SUVs in the brand's line-up.
All-new Lexus GX: Platform, dimensions, and equipment
The new GX sits atop the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform, which it also shares with the LX 600. It measures 4,950mm in length, 1,980mm in width, and 1,865mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,850mm. The new GX features, for the first time, electronic power steering. It also gets new double-wishbone suspension at the front and multi-link setup at the rear that claims to enhance its off-road capabilities. Meanwhile, Lexus offers adaptive suspension paired with active dampers as optional extra.
All-new Lexus GX: Design
The new GX has an imposing stance and rugged styling. It features an upright face with an angular grille and headlights, raised bonnet with bulges, flat roofline, arrow-straight shoulder lines, large tyres, chunky body cladding, and a rear light bar running across its length.
All-new Lexus GX: Interior
The interior of the GX emphasises luxury and comfort over the ruggedness of its exterior. It now comes with a combination of semi-aniline leather and NuLuxe available in distinct tones. Further, Lexus has given it a new 12.3-inch driver display and a massive 14-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also gets an optional heads-up display. Customers can choose between two seating configurations: six-seat and seven-seat.
All-new Lexus GX: Powertrain
The next generation GX is powered by a new 3.5-litre, twin-turbocharged, V6 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The V6 produces 349PS and 649Nm of torque. A 4WD system is available as standard. Also on offer is a 2.4-litre, inline-four cylinder, turbocharged hybrid powertrain. This unit will be available later on.
