Alpina XB7 brings even more muscle to the X7 SUV
Specialist BMW tuner Alpina has worked its magic on the range-topping BMW X7 M50i. This makes it a perfect alternative to the X7 M that might never happen and brings the X7 closer to the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus, but with the added practicality of three rows.
Alpina has extracted 90PS more from the X7 M50i's 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8. It now makes 612PS and 800 Nm thanks to a raft of changes like a new set of intercoolers, two additional water coolers, a new steel exhaust system that comes with active flaps. The 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox has been improved with a new aluminium sump, a larger transmission cooler and unique shift patterns. All of this helps the Alpina XB7 get from 0 to 100kmph in 4.0s and go on to a 290kmph top speed.
Other than the adjustable suspension systems and rear-wheel steer of the standard X7, Alpina has also tweaked, reinforced and sharpened the suspension systems. Larger brakes have been added too.
In terms of cosmetic updates, the changes to the XB7 are quite subtle but tasteful. There is Alpina badging though with more aggressive bumpers, larger front and rear diffusers, quad exhaust outlets and unique 20-inch alloy wheels. The signature Alpina 20-spoke wheels can be ordered optionally. On the inside, again there are Alpina badges everywhere. The crystal elements in the centre console get unique Alpina touches as does the instrument cluster and infotainment.
Prices of the Alpina XB7 start at USD 1,42,295 or Rs 1.07 crore before taxes and duties. BMW has still not launched the M50i version of the X7 in India, buyers can instead choose between the xDrive 30d and xDrive40i engine options with prices starting from Rs 92.5 lakh, ex-showroom.
