Auto sales 2023: Hyundai, Toyota, and MG

Most Indian automakers, such as Hyundai and Toyota, announced their record-braking sales results, while other reported a significant year-on-year growth. The exports also witnessed all-time highs for some brands. Now read on to know more details.

Hyundai Motor India

Hyundai Motor India Ltd. (HMIL) has achieved a historic milestone by achieving the highest ever domestic sales in the previous calendar year, crossing the six lakh units. In 2023, the carmaker registered a nine per cent sales growth at 6,02,111 vehicles sold compared to the 5,52,511 units sold in 2022. Not to mention, Hyundai reported an overall sales of 56,450 units in December 2023, which consisted 42,750 units of domestic sales and 13,700 units of exports. Further, the brand recorded a 10 per cent growth in exports at 1,63,675 units in 2023 over 1,48,300 units sold in the previous year.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor

Following Hyundai's record year, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) also reported its best-ever annual sales, delivering 2,33,346 units in 2023 with 46 per cent year-on-year growth. Out of which, the domestic sales accounted for 2,21,356 units compared to 1,60,364 units, whereas exports stood at 11,984 units.

In December 2023, Toyota witnessed a 119 per cent rise in sold 22,867 units as against 10,421 units sold in December 2022. Its domestic sales stood at 21,372 units, while 1,495 units of the Urban Cruiser Hyryder were shipped.

MG Motor India

MG Motor India recorded a growth of 18 per cent at 56,902 units in the previous year. Notably, the last year marked its fourth consecutive year of growth. On the other hand, it sold 4,400 units, with a 13 per cent year-on-year growth compared to December 2022.

As claimed, MG is now the second largest EV seller in India, as about 25 per cent of its overall sales come from electric vehicles (EVs). It has sold over 20,000 units of the Comet EV so far.
