BMW CE 04 bookings open in India: What should you expect?
BMW Motorrad has opened bookings for its first-ever electric scooter, the CE 04, in India, with the official launch slated for 24 July. This launch is part of a larger event where BMW Group India will also introduce the new-generation BMW 5 Series, the new Mini Cooper 5-door, and the new Mini Countryman EV.
BMW CE 04: Design
The CE 04 electric scooter is a head-turner with its sci-fi inspired, futuristic design. It bears similarities to the 2020 Definition model, featuring a distinctive look with cornering headlights, daytime running lights, angular bodywork, and a flat, floating-style seat with contrasting accents. The scooter also boasts keyless ignition.
BMW CE 04: Performance & range
Powering the CE 04 is an 8.9kWh battery pack paired with a liquid-cooled 42.5PS electric motor. It offers a claimed range of up to 130km on a single charge. The scooter can accelerate from zero to 100 kmph in 9.1 seconds, reaching a top speed of 120 km/h.
Charging options include a standard 2.3kWh cable, which takes about 4.5 hours to fully charge the battery from zero percent using a regular socket. For faster charging, an optional 6.9kW fast charger can reduce the charging time to approximately 1.5 hours.
BMW CE 04: Key features
The BMW CE 04 comes with a range of features, including:
Generous storage space: Unlike most scooters with under-seat storage, the CE 04 offers a spacious storage area with an unconventional side-opening door.
Large display: A 10.2-inch colour display provides all necessary information.
Optional extras: Customers can opt for additional features, such as a fast charger, heated grips and bench, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), cornering ABS, and an emergency call system.
BMW CE 04: Suspension, tyres & brakes
The CE 04 is built on a tubular steel frame paired with 35mm telescopic front forks and a single-sided swingarm at the rear. It rides on 120/70 R15 front tyres and 160/60 R15 rear tyres. The scooter is equipped with dual disc brakes at the front and a single disc at the rear, along with ABS and automatic stability control for enhanced safety. Riders can choose from three riding modes: Eco, Rain, and Road, to suit different riding conditions.
BMW CE 04: Price
The BMW CE 04 costs over £12,000 in the United Kingdom and the Indian market is unlikely to get a CKD version, thus the funcky EV could be priced above 10-12 lakh.
