BMW previews M 1000 XR prototype
After its first-ever independent M models, the M 1000 RR and M 1000 R, BMW has previewed an all-new M 1000 XR prototype or M XR. This is BMW's third M model and is based on the current S 1000 RR, S 1000 XR, designed as a long distance sports bike. It packs long-range capability and riding dynamics of a super sports for road and racetrack, says the firm. Meanwhile, BMW will reveal more details about the M XR in the second half of this year.
BMW M 1000 XR: The Heart
BMW has used its inline four-cylinder engine with the BMW shift cam tech in the M 1000 XR, which it has borrowed from the S 1000 RR. This motor generates over 200PS and has a DIN empty weight of 223kg. With this, it provides a top speed of around 280kmph. One can opt for the optional M Competition package to further enhance its riding dynamics and reduce weight.
BMW M 1000 XR: The equipment
With focus on suspension and drivetrain, BMW has also emphasised aerodynamics. As a part of this, the M XR features winglets that offer stability at high speeds. On the other hand, the brand says that the front-wheel-oriented seating position provides improved control, especially in the Supersport mode. The M 1000 XR gets M breaks derived from BMW Motorrad factory racing motorcycles in the Superbike World Championship. These M brake callipers come with a blue anodised coating that matches with M logo.
