BYD Atto 3 new entry level variant expected on July 10
BYD India seems to be on the verge of launching a new entry-level version of the Atto 3 SUV in India. The China-based automobile giant has teased several images on its social media platforms, hinting that the e-SUV could now be offered with a smaller battery pack, making it easier for the brand to price it aggressively.
With its 60.48kWh battery, the current Atto3 model has an ARAI-certified range of 521 kilometres. Reports suggest that the brand will be launching a smaller battery pack of about 50kWh which would reduce the new variants range slightly.
The biggest benefit of the smaller battery is that BYD India will be able to lower the starting price of the vehicle drastically. The Atto 3 currently sits at Rs 33.99 lakh (ex-showroom) but with the new variant, we could see the new base price lowered to somewhere around Rs 25 to 27 lakh (ex-showroom).
This would not only bring the Atto 3 closer to the MG ZS EV which in its top-spec guise is priced at Rs 25.20 lakh (ex-showroom) but also would make it competitive enough to take on the upcoming mid-size e-SUVs from Tata, Mahindra and Hyundai.
The MG ZS EV gets a 50.3 kWh pack with a single electric motor putting out 176PS and 280Nm of torque. The current version of the Atto 3 puts out 204PS and 310Nm of torque, which is considerably more than the ZS EV. We expect the new entry-level variant of the car to come with slightly less performance as well.
BYD offers the Atto 3 with four paint options: Parkour Red, Boulder Grey, Surf Blue, and Ski White. Cosmos Black is also expected to be offered upon the arrival of the new variant.
The Atto 3 comes equipped with a 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen infotainment system, 5-inch digital driver display, artificial leather upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, CN95 and PM 2.5 in-cabin air filters, 360-degree camera, powered front seats, electric parking brake with auto-hold, seven airbags, four-wheel disc brakes, TPMS, ESC, ABS with EBD, hill descent control, traction control, a wireless charging pad, and NFC enabled car key. BYD has also given it Level 2 autonomy powered by six radars. To lower the price, BYD India might also omit some features that will be available only on the top variant.
