BYD take on the Supercar market with the all-new Yangwang U9
BYD Auto, the world's largest EV manufacturer, has introduced the Yangwang U9, the company's first supercar. This high-performance, all-electric vehicle boasts a pricetag that will make it compete with the likes of Ferrari and Lamborghini. The Yangwang U9 will initially be available only in China.
Yangwang U9 is equipped with four electric motors, one on each wheel and the car puts down a total of 1,306PS and 1,680Nm of torque. BYD claims it has a top speed of 309.19 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.36 seconds. The U9 continues to employ BYD's lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology, with a capacity of 80 kWh and a stated range of 450 kilometres.
The U9 also has an 800-volt architecture and can provide up to 500 kW of DC rapid charging capacity. This may be accomplished via dual charging through the ports on both sides, building up the battery from 10 to 80 percent charge in just ten minutes.
BYD has also emphasized technology that allows all four wheels to be controlled separately, allowing for more stable and safe driving. The supercar also has 12 active and passive aerodynamic packages to minimize drag and improve heat dissipation efficiency.
It's the first Chinese car to include a carbon fibre monocoque and BYD's DiSus-X active body control suspension, which the firm claims was created internally. It scans the road with cameras before countering body motions with electric motors that react in as little as 40 milliseconds and raise each wheel by up to 75 mm at speeds of up to 500 m/s.
In terms of design, the Yangwang U9 looks like a future supercar with gullwing doors. It is a two-seater automobile that measures 4,966 mm in length, 2,029 mm in width, and 1,295 mm in height. The wheelbase measures 2,900 millimetres. The sleek design features tiny LED headlamps and a big front grille. The alloy wheels measure 20 inches in diameter.
The interior has a double-bubble dashboard that gives occupants a cockpit-like sense, which is accentuated by the 127-colour ambient lighting system. A 10.25-inch mini-LED digital instrument display sits in front of the driver, while the infotainment system is controlled by another mini-LED 12.3-inch portrait touchscreen (which is not rotatable). The music is played over a 12-speaker Dynaudio Evidence Platinum sound system.
