Citroen Basalt vs Tata Curvv: What should you expect?

Citroen recently unveiled the new Citroen Basalt Vision, an SUV Coupe concept set to join the brand's range in India in the second half of 2024. The Basalt will be locally produced and exported to South American markets, positioning itself as a competitor to C-segment SUVs like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. However, its closest rival is anticipated to be the upcoming Tata Curvv, which was showcased in near-production form at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024.

Citroen Basalt Vision vs Tata Curvv: Design

The Basalt draws inspiration from the existing C3 Aircross but presents a unique coupe-style roofline, a departure from conventional design norms. Its design emphasises projector headlamps, signature Citroen DRLs, squared-off wheel arches, and a sophisticated blacked-out C-pillar extension. In contrast, the Curvv boasts a clean, simple design aligned with Tata's "Less is More" philosophy, featuring a full-width daytime running lights, a familiar upper grille, and a distinctive roof spoiler.

While Citroen has yet to reveal the interior of the Basalt, we expect it to resemble the C3 Aircross with distinctive elements and additional features. Whereas, the Curvv's cabin showcases a modern dashboard layout with a large floating touchscreen and a digital driver's display, a panoramic glass roof, and a blue colour scheme.

Citroen Basalt Vision vs Tata Curvv: Powertrain

Citroen has not disclosed detailed powertrain specifications for the Basalt but is anticipated to feature a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine with options for a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. On the other hand, the Curvv is likely to be offered with Tata's newest 1.2-litre turbo-petrol TGDi engine and a 1.5-litre diesel unit, along with an all-electric variant boasting a large battery pack for a claimed range of over 500km.
