Citroen C3 Aircross premiers in Indonesia with an automatic transmission

Kenneth John Updated: August 14, 2023, 03:31 PM IST

The made-in-India Citroen C3 Aircross premiered at the Indonesia International Auto Show 2023, although it differs somewhat from the one offered here. The Indonesia-spec C3 Aircross SUV has a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, which is anticipated to arrive in India later. While reservations for the mid-size SUV will begin in September, deliveries are set to begin in October.

Citroen C3 Aircross: Powertrain

Except for the automatic transmission, the Indonesia-spec C3 Aircross is identical to the India-spec SUV. While its 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine generates the same 110hp as the India-spec C3 Aircross manual, it produces 205Nm of torque, 15Nm more than the India-spec C3 Aircross manual. This engine has an ARAI fuel economy of 18.5 kmpl.

The C3 Aircross features a standard gear lever for the 6-speed automatic transmission with manual mode but no paddle shifters. It remains to be seen if the C3 Aircross in India will receive the same traditional lever or a toggle-like drive selector as the eC3 and C5 Aircross.

Citroen C3 Aircross: Dimensions And Design

The car will be 4.3 meters long, meaning it is expected to be a strong contender in the mid-size SUV segment. The car has a wheelbase of 2.67 meters, a height of 1.66 meters, and a width of 1.79 meters.

It features split headlights, similar to the C3, and a more prominent grille up front. Combine it with a minimalist front bumper with skid plates and you get a front end that resembles a small C5 Aircross. The C3 Aircross sports round wheel arches, a longish wheelbase, and cladding right below the doors, on the wheel arches, and on the doors themselves, exactly like the other Citroen models. The C3 has a ground clearance of 200mm.

Citroen C3 Aircross: Interior

The Indonesia-spec vehicle also has a fixed centre headrest for the middle passenger in the second row and no tachometer. Some oddities remain, such as rear power window controls in the middle and a complete lack of LEDs. A sour note is the lack of feel-good amenities like as auto temperature control, auto IRVM, auto lighting and wipers, cruise control, and others.

Surprisingly, Citroen only offers the SUV in Indonesia with a 7-seat configuration, although India has both 5-seat and 7-seat options.

Prices are expected to vary between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 14 lakh and will be revealed at the same time. Delivery will begin in October. The C3 Aircross will compete with the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and the future Honda Elevate when it is released.
