EICMA 2015: Ducati debuts the Scrambler Sixty 2

Ducati has taken the wraps off the newest Scrambler in its portfolio, the Sixty 2 at EICMA 2015. The Bologna based manufacturer has stated that the Scrambler Sixty 2 get its name from the year 1962 because that's when pop art was gaining popularity across America and the new Scrambler represents that culture.

The baby Scrambler is powered by a new 399cc Desmodromic air-cooled, L-Twin engine that produces 42PS@8750rpm and 34Nm@7750rpm. While it looks like the bigger 803cc Scrambler, Ducati has tried to distinguish the Sixty 2 by swathing it in a set of new colours and four stars on the tank that represent the 400 cee cees. The engine is surrounded by a twin upper spar trellis frame.

Unlike the USDs on the elder Scrambler, the Ducati Scrambler Sixty 2 gets conventional Showa forks and a monoshock at the rear. The 10-spoke aluminum wheels are wrapped in Pirelli MT60 tyres. Stopping power is lent by Brembo 320mm disc at the front and a 245mm unit at the rear. Two-channel ABS is standard on the Ducati Scrambler Sixty 2.

The Ducati Scrambler Sixty 2 seems to have the arsenal to tackle the likes of the KTM 390 Duke, Yamaha MT-03 and the recently unveiled BMW G 310 R. The KTM 390 Duke has tasted success in India and the sheer number of KTMs in the country suggests that there exists a huge chunk of enthusiasts who desire performance and affordable too.

BMW's G 310 R (jointly developed by TVS and produced in India) is poised to challenge the KTM's supremacy, should BMW price the G 310 R in the vicinity. Now, there is no word yet about Ducati getting the Scrambler Sixty 2 but since the 803cc Scrambler is already on sale here, it may just be a matter of time that the most affordable Ducati hits our streets.
